HONG KONG

HONG KONG

After Shanghai, it was time to head south & visit the tall buildings of Hong Kong.

We caught a mid afternoon flight and landed in the darkness of Hong Kong. Still new to their public transportation system, we opted to take advantage of their extremely efficient taxi system, and enjoyed closing into the Hong Kong skyline, as we drove into the city instead. As we stepped out & headed to our hotel, you couldn’t help but look up at the buildings looking over you. I couldn’t wait to see them in the daylight tomorrow.

MAN MO TEMPLE

A 10 minute walk away, we started our first morning in Hong Kong, at the Man Mo Temple. The only thing about it is though, a few weeks ago, Hong Kong had been hit by a huge hurricane. If you looked closely, you could see little evidence around the towering city, of the aftermath. There were still sand bags lining some businesses, and fresh bamboo scaffolding surrounding Man Mo, as it was being prepped for partial rebuilding.

Luckily, for the most part, the interior was just as beautiful as I expected. It’s small, but beautiful.

Man Mo Temple was just a preview of HK for us though. Afterwards, we got ourselves some Octopus Cards (their pubic transport card), and headed off to meet our friend at Hong Kong Disneyland.

After another full day of HK Disneyland, we spent our third and final day exploring the rest of what Hong Kong had to offer, and for us, we decided to head towards Lantau Island. After a quick ride on the train, we headed up the

Ngong Ping 360 gondola.

Kristina & I were lucky enough to enjoy the 20 minute cable car journey, in our own cable car.

At the top, we were pleasantly suprised to run into free roaming cattle. Finding the only patches of grass in site, along the walkway, they seemed unbothered by visitors & their cameras. There were also several shops & tiny restaurants along the way towards the temple and the Big Buddha

The temple itself was beautiful & overflowing the smell of incense; a smell I grew up with & am very fond of.

Across of the temple though, was these towering steps that lead to an unbelievable steel & bronze Buddha. While my picture definitely depicts the extensiveness of the stairs, it doesn’t nothing to size of the Buddha. Once you stand nothing to it, it’s amazing how small you feel.

All in all, despite having to deal with a hurricane 2 weeks prior,

Hong Kong was beautiful.

One day I hope to come back in the cooler months & hike their mountains. -JN
